Education and Qualifications

Heather Hammond studied piano and clarinet at Leeds College of Music (1980-1985). Gained a Graduate Diploma in Light Music.

 

Subsequently she studied at Bretton Hall College, Wakefield (1988-1989). Gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (specialising in Music).

 

Currently Heather is a member of both the European Piano Teachers’ Association and the Incorporated Society of Musicians (both its Private Teachers’ and Musicians in Education sections).

 

Whilst in Leeds (1980-88) she taught piano and keyboard evening classes at Joseph Priestly Institute of Further Education, The Northern Academy of Music, Dance & Drama and Rothwell Saturday Morning Music School.


Full-time teacher at Scarcroft Primary School, York (1989-94).

 

Directed Soundabout Saturday Morning Music Workshops (Musical activity and games mornings for children aged 5 – 13) and the Soundabout Band (1993-98).

 

Private piano / electronic keyboard teaching practice established in 1994.

 

Soundabout Annual Summer Extravaganza Concert and Prize Giving established in 1995.

 

Electronic Keyboards tutor at All Saints’ Community Education Centre (1992-2002).

 

Piano Teacher at the Minster Song School (until April ’07) and Scarcroft Primary School (until March '20).

 

Composer - There are now many books available of Heather’s popular music for young instrumentalists. These include collections for piano, clarinet saxophone & flute at various grades. Books have been published by Kevin Mayhew Ltd., Faber, Collins & EVC Music Publications . Her pieces have also been included in ABRSM, LCM and Trinity College examinations.
